INTENSIVE CAMPAIGN

NATIONAL SERVICE

BRITAIN NOW OH FRONTIER

(Received January 23, 11.30 a.m.)

LONDON, January 22,

An intensive national service campaign will be inaugurated on January 23 by a broadcast by Mr. Chamberlain. This will be followed by a rally at the Albert Hall on January 24, and similar rallies will be held in the big centres throughout the country.

The distribution of 20,000,000 copies

of the "National Service Guide" will begin on January 25. The guide is a conspectus of the various services open to men and women of all ages, and includes two detachable enrolment forms. Nine firms were engaged in the production of the guide, which is of fifty-six pages and used up 1525 tons of paper.

Sir Auckland Geddes, in commending the guide, said: "We are now living on the frontier in all Wars. Hitherto we have been protected by our Fleet; but now, owing to the air peril, we might as well be a part of the Continent. We must therefore be ready to meet the first blow."

(Bcitisb Official Wireless.) I '"' RUGBY, January 21. A great co-ordinated campaign for i the enrolment of volunteers for the various branches of the national service, particularly organisations concerned with air-raid precautions, opens [next week.

Occupations in question are those of such importance in 'time of emergency that those engaged in them would be"st serve the national interests in war by remaining at their posts and intensifying their efforts.
