FAST SCORING

HUTT V. WELLINGTON

A surprise was created at the Hutt I Recreation Grouhd on Saturday when Wellington won the toss and put the Hutt team in to bat. The Hutt batsmen appreciated the move and scored quickly. When Kemp was bowled for 37. with the total at 66, he and McLeod had been at the wickets for thirty minutes. The hundred went up in fifty minutes, but after Stehr's dismissal there was a slowing up. Kemp hit six 4's in his excellent innings and McLeod nine 4's. The only other batsman to distinguish himself was R. Gwilliam, who scored 50 in i fifty-nine minutes. Meech, who was last Change, bowled splendidly, taking five for 47. Wellington began badly in their task of heading the Hutt total of 252. Monteath and Ell were soon dismissed, but Morgan and Whyte added 68 forthe third wicket. Whyte's 66 was an excellent display, marked by good play ori the leg side and some gOod t straight driving. He batted for eigntynine minutes and hit two 6's and seven 4's. Details:-— HUTT. ! First Innings.
