GOLD IN U.S. DOLLAR

EXTENSION OF PRESIDENT'S

POWERS

WASHINGTON, January 1?. President Roosevelt has requested Congress to extend for two years his power to regulate the gold content of the dollar, and the Act creating the stabilisation fund.

The President said both measures enabled the United States to safeguard its interests and maintain international monetary and economic cooperation.

"It is. obvious, however, that the international monetary and economic situation is still such that it would not be safe to permit such powers to be terminated."
