MAKE THIS TABLE CROQUET SET
With some corks, skewers, marbles, •wire, rubber tubing, and two nails you can make a good table croquet set. The table should be covered with an old tablecloth. ■
The mallets, as you.see from the diagram, are very easily made. Marbles are used for balls. First obtain the 'marbles, and then make the hoops of wire large enough to allow the marbles to pass through. The , hoops should be made twice as long as they are.wide, and have of rubber tubing slipped over them. The posts are made by pushing linch. wire nails through pieces of cardboard, and then covering them , with tubing. You can, however, use ■both 'the hoops and posts plain if you like, if the rubber tubing is not handy. /The six hoops (A, 8,. C, D, E, and F) and the two "posts CG and H) are. set up on the table according to the plan shown. It is a good plan to draw the lines on the cloth with chalk, and mark the positions of the hoops and posts. The posts.should be stuck through the tablecloth, so that the cardboard base is under the cloth; but if mother objects to this, you can use large pins, driven into the table. Several players can take part, each having a ball and mallet. The object • of each player is to strike his ball through- the hoops, starting' from, the starting post and following the route shown by the dotted lines;. The ball must- go through the hoops in the direction indicated, aiid the .players, take it in turn to strike. Going from B to C, the ball must avoid post G, but after going through hoop. F the ball mustTstrike:.this|;'peg, ' The game is won by the player who reaches Ifte finishing post-first;, /;
