MISSING NECKLACE
THEFT ALLEGED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 20. Charged with the theft of a pearl necklace, valued at £265, belonging to | a titled lady, a young woman appeared in the Magistrate's Court before Mr. j F. H. Levien, S.M. Detective-Sergeant McHugh obtained a remand till Monday. "I am instructed that she has a complete answer to this charge," said counsel. "Have the pearls been recovered?" asked the Magistrate. "No, sir, they were destroyed—they were burned," answered Detective-Ser-geant McHugh. In granting a remand the Magistrate admitted the accused to bail in her own recognisance on condition that she stayed with the Salvation Army. On counsel's application the Magistrate ordered that the name be not published in the meantime.
