IRON LEFT ON

WILLIS STREET FIRE

Fire caused by an electric pressing iron which was left on resulted in four engines from the Central Fire Station being called to the premises of Harry Baker, tailor, on the first floor of a three-storeyed brick building owned by Preston's, butchers, 96 Willis Street, at 6.20 a.m. today. Flames were breaking through the windows facing the street when the firemen arrived, but hoses were run from the street hydrants, and the blaze was quickly suppressed. The workroom with its contents was considerably damaged by fire, smoke, and heat.
