HAWKE CUP CRICKET

The next direct challenge match for the Hawke Cup will be a three-day fixture, commencing next Saturday, between Waikato (holders) and Hawke's Bay. So far this season there have been two challenge games, from Bay of Plenty and from Marlborough, Waikato being successful in both fixtures. One of the main questions that is exercising the minds of cricket enthusiasts in Hawke's Bay is: who will lead the side? The position is clouded by the complete lack of form of H. N. Lambert, the former Wellington and New Zealand representative, who has not appeared regularly in club cricke this season. Wairarapa commenced an elimination match with Wanganui, at Wanganui. and Taranaki commenced an elimination match with Rangitikei, at Hawera, yesterday.
