ANNIVERSARY DAY
MANY ATTRACTIONS
The anniversary of the founding of the City of Wellington will be observed this year on Monday, and many attractions, both for athletes and" the general public, have been arranged. The main excursion, of course, will be that on the Rangatira to Picton, although many people have taken advantage >of the weekend rail excursion to Napier and Hastings.
Many Wellington oarsmen visited Wanganui for the regatta there today, and the holiday on Monday will be used for training for the Wellington regatta on February 4 and the national championships at Picton on "February 11. Many people will journey to Masterton, where the New Zealand longdistance athletic stars, V. P. Boot and W. A. C. Pullar, will appear at a sports meeting starting at 1.30. A sports meeting has also been' arranged at Otaki. Wellington athletes will be well represented, particularly at Masterton. No tennis of a tournament nature will be held on Monday, but there will be inter-club games if the weather interferes with play today or tomorrow.
No important cricket fixture' has been arranged, but some friendly games will be played.
The Wellington Provincial Yacht and Motor-boat Association will conduct a regatta on the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club course. There will be races for all classes of yachts, in addition to speed-boat and launch contests.
Races will be held by the Wellington Racing Club at Trentham and the Ashhurst-Pohangina Racing Club at Ashhurst.
