MOTOR-CYCLE TRADE

Inquiries made amongst Wellington motor-cycle importers today in reference to a report from Palmerston North that the motor-cycle business was being crippled by refusal of the Government to licence imports of new machines failed to discover any parallel case here.

One of the principal dealers who handles only English machines said he had been permitted only about half the quantity he had asked for, but had been allowed supplies to the same value as his imports for the first half of last year. Unfortunately some £800 worth of goods that should have landed before Christmas had been late, and his licence for the present half year had therefore been cut into to that amount.

Several importers have not yet received their licences.
