CHILDREN BENEFIT

The Health Stamp Campaign made a substantial advance during the Christmas season, when the movement for the benefit of backward and undernourished children was well remembered by the public. The net receipts from stamp sales from the opening of the campaign to January 7 totalled £5014 and, together with donations received, the health camps have been credited with more than £6000.

In the camp at Waikato Heads, conducted by the Waikato Children's Camp League, last season's experience was that the average gain in weight for each child in 2£ weeks was 2.051b for the boys and 2.021b for the girls, while the greatest gain was 5.21b. , At the other end of the Dominion, in one of the Dunedin camps the average gain in weight was 2|lb a child/ The smallest individual increase in weight among the children at the Marlborough Health camp last year was 21b, and, in addition to this indication of improved physique, a number of children increased in height by a quarter of an inch.
