FOREIGN MIGRANTS

% ARRIVALS IN DOMINION

Domestic workers and governesses from Germany and Denmark are now being brought to New Zealand by the Five Million Club, following negotiations with an organisation in Holland, and with the chief migration officer of the Danish Government, states the "New Zealand Herald." A number of girls and a few male migrants have already been settled in the Dominion and others are arriving this year. So far those who have come here are reported to be proving excellent citizens,

The? club approached the Dutch organisation with a view to obtaining Germans with some Jewish blood and others who, for reasons of their own, might desire to leave Germany. Most of the migrants are women.

The Danes may be regarded as assisted migrants, as the prospective New Zealand employer advances the fare, which is paid. back; by" the employee over a period. The scheme is reported to be working well, and to be filling a definite need in the country.

The number of people dealt with so far is small, but it is expected to increase as time passes. 'Each case is dealt with on its merits by the New Zealand authorities, and a permit to enter the country is obtained for each migrant.

Difficulty amounting almost to impossibility is reported in obtaining in England the type of migrant required in New Zealand at present. The type needed is considered to be that prepared to enter domestic service, and the skilled artisan, who is prepared to come to New Zealanc1 and enter industry. The Five Million Club is therefore recruiting people who will be easily absorbed in the country without creating any disturbance.
