For the first time since they were secured by the Wellington Racing Club the automatic water sprinklers have not been required to any extent this season. Further driving rain this week has kept the tracks, easy. Gay Night, who is engaged in the two-year-old races at the coming Wellington Meeting, is a half-brother oy Nifht Raid to the Great Northern Derby winner Greek Shepherd. Hinerawe looks to have her iuii share of weight, if not more, in having to concede several pounds an round to Centrepoise, Te Morehu, Seyfried and others in the Manawatu Gorge Hack Cup at Ashhurst. During R. S; Bagby's absence in Australia his team of eleven horses at Ellerslie is under the supervision ol X Heaton. A recent addition to the stable is the four-year-old geldmg Rainier, by Vaals from Ti Tree, and who has been spelling during the last 18 months. ~ . Wotan has been on the easy list since Stratford but will be taken in hand again to be prepared for Te Aroha next month.
The New Plymouth apprentice F. Cleaver, who won the Stratford Cup on Lickem, will again have the mount on this horse in the Wellington Cup.
During the week F. D. Jones wrote to the Wellington Racing Club accepting for both Royal Chief and Moorsotis. Yesterday the club received a telegram from Jones cancelling the acceptances.
Sang Bleu has been sold by Mr. E. H. L. Garner to Mr. F. Parker, whose colours were well known in Taranaki two seasons back when carried by Grateful. Sang Bleu will still be trained by P. Farrell at New Plymouth. After being trained at Hastings for some time by A. Quinlivan for the Auckland owner Mrs. E. Roberts, the horses Agog and Royal Ace have been returned north. Agog, a half-sister by Cape Horn to Lady Furst, may later on make good as a jumper, as she has already shown an aptitude for the game. While doing pace work at Ellerslie this week Rainier ran about and collided with Rajanya, who was also on the track. Both horses were brought down and after rising careered about for several minutes before being caught, one of the racecourse staff stopping Rajanya just as the gelding reached the road gate. Rajanya punctured one of his knees in addition to ricking his off shoulder and he will have to be rested. Rainier escaped unhurt. '
