SILVANUS SOLD
PURCHASED FOR THE STUD
(Special from "Limited.")
HAWERA, January 10.
Hawera-trained horses failed to do as well as expected during the -holidays, and although numerous placings were credited to them only two victories went their way, Lickem annexing the Stratford Cup and Ramleh scoring at New Plymouth. Lickem's victory in the cup at Stratford marked the fifth occasion that a representative of O. Cox has won the event. The successes were gained by Marqueteur (1920), The Banker (1925), Fersen (1935), and Lowenberg (1937).
Narrator was a rank disappointment over the holidays, and he has been sent back to his breeder at "Wanganui. The Lysander gelding has shaped fairly well in .a few essays over hurdles, and if he is persevered with in this department he may .yet pay "his way.
Mr. J. Bublitz has sold Silvanus and Gold Band to an Australian studmaster for breeding purposes. It is understood that the figure for the two mares was in the vicinity of £800. Silvanus is a splendid type, and she shoUld be an Meal matron.
