AUCKLAND, December 22,

Further steps to decide the form of Auckland's principal centennial memorial were taken at a conference of local bodies in the metropolitan area tonight. The conference was called as a result of a decision of a previous conference to ask if local bodies would agree to associate themselves in a combined, endeavour for. the provision of such, a memorial. It was- decided'tonight to set up an executive of the city council representatives and mayors and chairmen, of local bodies td> consider the form of the memorial and report its recommendations, to a plenary conference of local body representatives on March 1. The senior Magistrate in Auckland^ Mr. W. R.. McKean, was invited to act as chairman. It was also decided to. invite written .public suggestions*, returnable by January 10.
