VALUE OF AN EYE
How much is a film star's eye worth? That is the delicate problem which the Tribunal of Ayranches will, have to solve, says the Paris correspondent of the Melbourne "Age." The eye in question belongs to Henri Garat, and its story goes back to a casino scene "in 1935. The reasons for the trouble have by now become obscure, but suddenly, in the middle of a game at the tables, the croupier treated the film star, to what is expressively described :in French as a "gnon," and Henri Garat came out with a large black eye. Tl^r Casino had a pious horror of any kind of law suit, so by a "gentleman's agreement" IV iri Garat received 8000' francs, and all was believed to be settled. But it was not. From the "gnon" there- rei suited some serious eye trouble, and recently the film star has made a further claim for two million francs in damages. And the Court has now to decide whether one eye on one film star is worthy q£ so high a rate of I consideration. '
