CITIES IN SPAIN
HUNDREDS ARRESTED
DENIAL BY FRANCO AGENCY
(Independent Cable Service.) (Received December 22, 11 a.m.) LONDON, December 21. A message from Paris says it is learned from a most reliable source that a well-planned revolt broke out in the rebel garrisons at Saragossa, Segovia, Pamplona, and Soria, and in several other cities in that part of Spain controlled by General Franco, and that over a thousand officers and non-commissioned officers have been arrested. General Franco's news agency in London says that the reports of the revolt are untrue, and are based on the fact that there have been numerous arrests in the frontier zone for smuggling and other illegalities. The Hendaye correspondent of the British United Press discloses a plot against General Franco, centred at Burgos. It is reported that previous Ministers were arrested and several officers, including two colonels and one major, executed. It was a sequel to raids throughout the city on December 3, and the rounding up of plotters who were organising a military uprising for the overthrow of General Franco. All the officers involved were executed.
