RACE CALL FORWARD

ENGAGEMENT OF RIDERS

(Special from "Limited.")

HAWERA, December 21. Despite the recent rough weather Hawera horses have made good progress of late, and the majority are well forward for their holiday engagements.

Race Call, Viracious, Maahanui, and probably Notium are to race at Awapuni on Staurday. The first-named is in capital order and galloped particularly well this morning. Viracious has worked brilliantly since hiS/Woodville outings. G. R. Tattersall will probably ride Race Call and L. H. Clifford has ben eengaged for Viracioae and Maahanui.

The Monaloff filly Golden Orchid has made her reappearance on the tracks after a spell at Pihama. She is looking big and healthy.

R. J. Sargent is to pilot Lady Kyra and Silver .Gift at New Plymouth, and N. R. McKenzie rides Le Marquise, Gold Glare, and Naughty Marietta. N. Cavaney has joined up with L. George, and his mounts at New Plymouth include Gold Band and Chief Lord.

T. Rohloff has been retained for Student Prince in his hurdle races, and S. T Edwards for Fiancee.

Arrangements have been made for the Campbelltown Handicap winner Denis to spell in New Zealand. When Denis broke down a few days before the Epsom Handicap, hi# leg trouble seemed to be serious enough to prevent his racing for a long time. He has made a good recovery, but his owner, "Mr. G. Lightford," believes that, before he is placed in training again, a spell in New Zealand paddocks would do him good. He will be turned out at Westmere, where Lo Zingaro and other Australian horses have recently been spelled.
