Wairarapa acceptances are due at 8 o'clock this evening. L. H. Clifford has been engaged for Llangollen in the A.R.C. Railway Handicap. The Bigot was unlucky in the Manawatu Cup and Wellington Cup last season, the only two times he has yet raced over 1£ miles. B. H. Morris's mount in the Great Northern Foal Stakes will be Submission.
Awapuni track-watchers expect the Nightmarch three-year-old Colonel Bogey to move out of novice class during the holidays. Hyderabad, a three-year-old Colossus gelding due to have his first race at Manawatu on Saturday, has been named after the vessel wrecked on the Hokio beach, near Levin, many years ago. He is owned in Levin by Mr. E. M. Ryan. N. R. McKenzie will be riding on the first day of the Taranaki Meeting, when his mounts will include Aussie Ra, Race Call, Gold Glare, Le Marquis, Naughty Marietta, and Noitaro. He will return to Ellerslie for the second day, and later will attend the Stratford fixture.
Solaria, who has been off the scene for over eighteen months, figures among the acceptors for the Open Flying Handicap at . Waipukurau. This Gainscpurt gelding, who is now. eight years old, was a fine sprinter when on his day. Rustem will be having his first race in open class when he contests the Grandstand Handicap ,at Awapuni on Saturday. He was very fit a month back, and he is capable of .effecting a surprise in a race such as this. In one or two of his races last season the Pombal—Episode colt Brazil showed a deal of promise, and it is of interest to note that he will be having his first outing as a three-year-old in the Maiden Plate at Awapuni on Saturday. A full-brother to Burnish and Epigram, he carries the colours of Mr. R. H. <W. Lowry, of Taihape, scion of the well-known racing fsmilv One or two of the Night Raid horse Wheriko's progeny have lately been making an appearance in nomination lists, and another of them is Gymnotus, who is an acceptor for the Nursery Handicap at Awapuni on Saturday. Gymnotus is a brown gelding out of the Arausio mare Miss Araudille, who comes through the same branch of the Mermaid family as Medley (dam of Limerick and Ballymena). and he is to be raced by his breeder.
