BRITAIN'S CAUSES

SUPPORT BY DOMINIONS

SYMPATHY IN EVENT OF WAR

SIR M. HANKEY'S VIEW

(British Official Wifeless.?

(Received December 21, 10.50 a.m.)

RUCBY, December 20

Sir Maurice Hankey, former Secretary to the British Cabinet and to the Imperial Defence Committee, in a broadcast speech, referred to the loyal sentiments entertained in the Dominions towards Britain.

"If I were Chief of the General Staff of a country likely to become involved in war with the' United Kingdom," he paid, "I would warn my

Government to beware of underrating the Dominions. I have visited all four overseas Dominions, and I know something of their problems and difficulties, and as a result of all this I find it difficult to conceive of circumstances in which this country is likely to become involved in a major war on an issue in which popular sentiment in the Dominions is not overwhelmingly sympathetic to our

cause."
