AMICABLE TRADE

FAVOURED BY BRITAIN

DR. SCHACHT TOLD

SHARING OF MARKETS

(British Official Wireless.)

RUGBY, December 19,

The opportunity of the visit to London of Dr. Schacht, president of the Reichsbank, was taken to tell him, for the information of the competent authorities in Berlin, that Britain favoured amicable agreements between industries in the two countries on the sharing of markets, enabling them both to carry on fair trade at fair prices.

Making this announcement in the House of Commons today, Mr. Oliver Stanley, President of the Board of Trade, emphasised that Dr. Schacht was not in London as the representative of the German Government.

Questioned in the House concerning Jewish refugees, Mr. R. A. Butler, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, said: "The general question of emigration from Germany was discussed unofficially with Dr. Schacht, but it was not intended or expected that any decisions should be reached during the visit."
