SYNOPSIS OF LAST 48 HOURS. During the weekend an exceptionally deep depression has been located over eastern Australia, Sydney experiencing the worst storm in its history. Conditions have been disturbed, also, in New Zealand, barometers having been very low in the south. Squally winds between north-west and south-west have predominated with gales at times, especially about and north of Cook Strait. Fair weather prevailed over most of the Dominion on Saturday, but by yesterday cloud had increased generally and there had been rain in all western districts and in the far north and south, with some heavy falls in the vicinity of Wellington. Scattered thunderstorms occurred last night, but the weather had improved somewhat by this morning. Temperatures have been warm in parts of eastern districts, otherwise mild.
