SMUGGLED PLANES

INQUIRIES IN CANADA

(Received December 1, 2.20 pjn.)

OTTAWA, November 30,

Regarding questions in the British House of Lords about Canadian aeroplanes which were reported to have been smuggled to Barcelona, Mr. J. L. Ilsley, Minister of Revenue, states that papers produced by a Canadian aeroplane manufacturer covering the export of 34 machines to Turkey are in order, and that the planes were properly documented when shipped. Departmental officials revealed that the engines were manufactured in the United States and shipped into Canada for assembling. Recently Turkey disavowed all knowledge of a shipment of planes which was traced to loyalist Spain.
