HOLIDAY TRAVEL

HEAVY BOOKINGS

TICKETS BOUGHT IN TIME

It was ascertained from the Railway Department today that bookings for the Christmas holiday period are exceptionally heavy. At present seven expresses have been scheduled to leave Wellington on Friday, December 23. Accommodation on those trains is already almost fully booked.

The new scale of fares will not apply to tickets bought on or before December 10, even if they are for use subsequent to that date. Purchasers up to December 11 will thus be placed in the same position as persons who have already bought tickets for travel subsequent to December 10. An official statement to this effect was made from the Railway Department today in response to an inquiry.
