CONTRACT BRIDGE

The annual general meeting of the Wellington Bridge Club was held recentlj. Mr. W. H. Young presided over a good atendaace of members, congratulating them on the enthusiasm with which all tournaments wsxe contested, and also on the sound financial position of the club.

The "various prizes won during the year were presented by Mrs. Young and votes of appreciation were accorded Mrs. Ashley Duncan, the retiring vice-president, Mrs. K. Parkinson, the hostess at the National Glub, and Mr. Young, the retiring president, for their help to the club during the year. The following executive for the ensuing year was apointed:—President, Mr. H. Burns; vice-presidents, Mrs. J. CL Peacock and Mr. G. F. Maxfield; hon. secretary-treasurer, Mr. C. H. Joplin; general committee, Mrs A. S. Houston, Miss Kirwan, Messrs C. I*. Petry and L. S. Stohr; hon. auditor, Mr. J. G. McDermont; delegates to the N.Z. Contract Bridge Association, Messrs. H. H. Young and G. F. Maxfield.

Tournaments for 1939 commence in February next and during the "off" season "recreation" evenings are held every Tuesday. Goblets were won during November by Mrs. H. H. Parkinson and Miss Kirwan (N.-S.) and Mrs. Ashley Duncan and Mrs. W. J. Hutchison <E.-W.) for November' 1; Mrs. J. C. Peacock and Mrs. Clarry (N.-S.) and Dr. Hutchison and Mr. W. B. Rainey (E-W.) for November 8; Mrs; Hutchison and Mr. Maxfield (N.-S.) and Mr. L. S. Stohr and Dr. Hutchison (E.-W.) for November 15; and a "par" hand evening held on November 22 resulted in a win for Mrs. H. B. Hornibrook and Mrs. E. M. Sampson (N.-S.) and Dr. jand Mrs. Hutchison (E.-W.) A ladies' pairs afternoon was held on November 7 and Mrs. W. E. Rawson and Mrs. Ashley Duncan came top for N.-S. and Mrs. E. B. McKay and Mrs. Harper for E.-W.
