SOCIAL AND DANCE

ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

Wellington East St. John Ambulance Division held its annual break-up social and dance in the Rex Hall, Kilbirnie, recently. A most enjoyable evening was spent by all who attended. Mr. W. Goodwin was M.C. and the accompanist for the dances was Mr. Wallis. The following divisional members contributed vocal and musical items: Mr. H. Mander (songs with guitar accompaniment), Mr. D. Rigg (piano-accoi-dion), and Mr. H. Turner (concertina). Mr. S. Willard (sleight-of-hand and magic).

Between dances several competitions were held, the winners receiving prizes. The winner of the Christmas cake competition was Mr. Waterhouse. During a very good supper an amusing humorous monologue was contributed by Miss Martis.

The divisional superintendent (Mr. W. Whitely) gave a short address, presenting Mr. C. Mclver with a cup for the most advanced work during the year. He thanked the various performers and also mentioned specially the ladies' committee (Mrs. C. Mclver, Mrs. J. Kimmins, and Mrs. W. F. Pycroft) for their unfailing support at all times and for helping to make the function a success.

Keep some charcoal on a plate in the food cupboard. This prevents foods that are susceptible to smell from absorbing the strong flavour of onions, etc.
