FOXMOND AN IMPROVER
(Special from "Early Bird.")
AUCKLAND, November 30,
Blonde Princess, winner of the Auckland Vauxhall Handicap on Monday, is going to prove more than useful, for her effort was an impressive one, made more ' difficult by the fact that her rider elected to start from the outside. She is a four-year-old daughter of Hunting Song and Fair Queen and carries the colours of Mr. F. Benson, who raced the grey horse Grand Sport successfully a few years ago. A likely sort of filly seen out in the novice event was Hunter's Rose, trained at Takanini by C- Morse. She was (always outside . three or four horses, |and it, ■was not surprising that she weakened in the straight She revealed enough pace to suggest that she is a possibility for a maiden event She is a half-sister to. Two No Trumps, who won races in Australia a couple of seasons back.
A feature of the recent racing at Ellerslie was the forward showings made by owner-trainer H. llama's horses, Tboley Street and Miss Appellant The former finished third in the open sprint on Saturday, and this indicated that he may be an early winner, while Miss Appellant was fourth in 'the event won by Blonde Princess. She is a four-year-old daughter of Appellant and Miss Bramble, and her turn should not be far otL They may race next at the Waipa Meeting at Te Bapa this month. * Konneta had little difficulty in winning the two-year-old event at Ellerslie on Monday, and a pleasing feature of her performance was that she could be improved in condition. On her two previous showings, when she was run-ner-up in both the Auckland Welcome and the Wellington Wellesley Stakes, she was nicely placed, and" now that she has been successful she should win again. Trainer. R. S. Bagby holds a strong hand in the Foal Stakes on Boxing Day with High Caste and KonFoxmond had impressed sufficiently at Te Rapa to cause her showings against the proved youngsters at-Ellers-lie to be closely followed. .While Konneta scored easily, it is probable that she would have had a much more dimcult task had the.Te Aroha filly been able to hold her position with the fast pace set, for she must have been conceding the winner at least eight lengths over the last three furlongs, and her final dash was justification for the claim of her admirers that, she as. really good. . _ , Oriental Bay followed up his Takapuna Plate victory by running a very fine race against Tepoto in the concluding event ol the Ellerslie Meeting, and in his present form he may be a hard horse to beat in middle-distance events this seasori. He may be a bit difficult to place in open company at the present time, although wi£h the provincial circuit opening in earnest in a little over six weeks* time at Thames he will get plenty of opportunities. .-.:,-,. ■ . . : .-,
