ANOPHELES WELL
GOULSBRO'S PROGRESS
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
TAKANINI, November 23. Takanini's .hare of the spoils at the Waikato Meeting were all credited to D. J. Burgess, who won with High Sea twice and Brazilian. It is rather remarkable that the luck should have turned to such good effect, as this stable had previously experienced an exasperating run. In fact, this is the third season that the stable has been established by the syndicate of sportsmen with Dr. W. C. Ring at. the head, and until last weekend only two successes had previously been recorded by the team. High Sea's dual victory was not anticipated after his dismal displays of late, but his savaging habits were missing on these occasions, and he gave a glimpse of what has been expected of him so often previously. Anopheles is going along nicely in preparation for her engagement in the Great Northern Foal Stakes, and no fault can be found with her condition. I The Vaals filly is to be ridden by L. J. Ellis. C. G. Goulsbro', who broke his leg when at the post on this filly ;in the Wellesley Stakes at Trentham. iwas at Te Rapa on crutches, and while his injury-is responding well, he does not expect to be riding again before the end of January. Gay Movie has been eased in her work and is not to race again until Christmas. Minor placings have been her lot of late, but she has been very unlucky in the draw for post positions; in fact, she has drawn the outside in each of her last four starts. Gay Talkie's half-sister looks like fulfilling the promise she displayed earlier vi the season.
W. Townsend, who has enjoyed much
success with the-progeny of Surveyor, has acquired a full-brother to Royevrus, and a colt by Surveyor from Te Waipu, a winner of the Avondale Stakes.
A. Tinker has another recent addition to his team in Gael, who is to be put to hurdling, in which department of the game he is stated to be very proficient. E. Pope also
has increased his team by the arrival of a nice-looking two-year-old by Hunting Song from Some Lady. This filly is known as Mingle. Poker Dice pulled up very lame after a gallop on Tuesday morning, and it appears as though he is suffering a recurrence of the trouble which put him out of action last season. This is a very speedy gelding who promised well, but the outlook now does not appear very promising.
