RAIL VERSUS ROAD

RUGBY, November 24.

A request for the removal of legal restrictions on their charging powers in respect to freight was made today by a deputation composed of the chairmen and general managers of the four main-line railway companies which waited on Dr. E. L. Burgin, Minister of Transport. The Minister asked the deputation to amplify its proposals, which aim at the removal of the statutory obligations on companies. The members of the deputation consider the statutory obligations are a handicap to them in competition with road transport.
