POWER BOARD REBUILDING
Plans for rebuilding were discUssed at the meeting of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board yesterday afternoon, when Mr. P. Dowse moved: That the resolution passed by the board on October 6 to the effect that any additions to the present offices or building be made on the board's present property be rescinded. Mr. Dowse said that the. present office buildings were far from adequate and there appeared to be general congestion.
He did not have a parochial viewpoint, but of the total population in the board's area of 49,000 one-third lived in Lower Hutt. The new offices should be somewhere in the centre of the area. He would prefer any site to the present one.
Mr. L. Stewart said that if the board decided to erect a new building it should be in the main street at Lower Hutt.
The chairman (Mr. A. W. Press) said that in his opinion there were ninetynine reasons why the board should stay where it was and only one why it should go to Lower Hutt, and that was the payment of accounts. He agreed with Mr. P. Robertson that the present building should be kept. He thought it would be economic to build on tha present site.
Mr. Dowses motion was lost, four members voting for it. . "
