BILLIARDS TOURNEY
A further series of four games in the Wellington annual small-table handicap tournament was decided last evening at Billiards Limited Showrooms.
H. Wilder (rec. 30) beat E. A Josling (owe 60). 260-202. Wilder's best break was 25, and Josling, who not infrequently records a century, failed to find touch last night, his best being 22 and 20. Although J. M. Brackenridge (owe 40) did not produce the brilliant billiards of his first game against W. Keech (owe 25) he provided the latter with stiff opposition and was probably unfortunate to lose. Keech showed good knowledge and compiled several good breaks, including a 48, 50, 29, and 36. Brackenridge's best were 24, 31, 21, and 21. The final score was Keech 240. Brackenridge 162. G. Lang (owe 35) beat G. Lamb (rec. 50), 235-200. Lang, who is a previous winner of this tournament, played solidly and recorded several breaks, among the best of which were 40, 26, and 25. A. Armstrong (owe 175) granted a substantial concession in the handicap to the improving young player A. P. Plowman (rae. 40). The former, however, proved equal to it and in the closing stages assumed the mastery and eventually won by 375-345. Armstrong's best breaks were 64, 56, 42, 41. 37. and 32. Plowman's best was 40.
There will be no games tonight, but the tournament will be continued on Monday, when games will be played as follows:—7 p.m., F. G.-Falkner v. G. Berry; 8 p.m.. W N. Tucker v R. Bull; 9 p.m., H. R. Tunley v. L. B. Russell. The Wellington women's handicap tournament will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday.
