DICTOGRAPH USED
CONVICTION OF MURDERERS
(Received November 25, 1 p.m.)
DAUPHIN (Manitoba), Nov. 24
Convicted with the aid of a dictograph hidden in their cell Peter Kortens, Daniel Prytuk, and Daniel Kanuka were sentenced to death for fatally beating an 81-year-old farm woman, Mrs. Anna Cottick, during a burglary after her husband had been clubbed unconscious.
It was the first time in Manitoba that dictograph records had been admitted as evidence. The police lis-tened-in while the accused discussed the crime, agreeing that they should not have done it. A police stenographer recorded every word and to ensure accuracy another stenographer made a similar record in an adjoining room.
