MR. CHAMBERLAIN'S POLICY
"DUTY TO BE STRONG"
(Britisb Official Wireless. J RUGBY, November 17. Sir Thomas Inskip, Minister of Defence, speaking at Eedes today, said that Mr. Chamberlain's effort had xin'doubtedly met with a bad check during the last few days, but it was a noble effort. Mr. Chamberlain was right xn his instinct, and events would not deter him from p_cr__sing his policy. Peace by settlement was the way of the present Government. It was the only way to peace, whether one went ;to war ta attain it or not. He had no desire to divide the German Government from the German people, but he found it very difficult to believe that the German people approved of the appalling treatment of j .innocent Jewish people. . j "We do not believe that such a policy can triumph," he said. "It has ; taught us the lesson that we .need tobe strong. The Jews are suffering because they are weak. Our first duty ;as a nation is to help those people.
