REPORT TO CONSUL

The following cablegram was received 'by the Chinese ConsulateGeneral from Chungking this morning:—On the northern sector of the Canton-Hankow railway our troops have reached the Fuyi. Tingszechiao, and Tungyang districts in the rear of the Japanese lines. We vigorously attacked the enemy from these districts, and in the last, few days we killed nearly 1000 of the enemy. In Kwangtung the enemy troops: have completely retired into the city of Canton. We are in the course of surrounding, and attacking the city. In the Shikiang area our troops have captured Shihpai and Weitong. on the Canton-Samshui railway, and our artillerymen; are shelling the enemy's positions in. the city of Cantor* from these two ooiiits.
