"SPRING'S FLOWERGIRLS." (Original.) The Uttle yellow crocus said a magic word: "Hocus-pocus 1" 'Cos she wanted and wanted The sun to shine. So that she ' could Bring up nine Little crocuses, "I can't help sighing," Bald the snowdrop, ' 'Cos where I'm growing It's full of rock." The little yellow daffodils Vere nodding in the breeze, Making yellow carpets Underneath the trees. Yellow bonnets, frilly dresses. Never seem to get In messesLittle purple violets Scenting air around. Underneath the hedgerows They are to be found. Little yellow eyes blinking Bravely at the sun, And when the day is over, They slumber, one oy one. 'CHEEB* CHUM" (9). Masterton. "THE JAPANESE BRIDGE." (Original.) There oace was a pond, On its sunny banks grew Beautiful flower* Of every hue. And on the pond ' A lily-white swan Sailed peacefully, happily. Gently along. Over it stretched A bridge, narrow and long, Where Japanese children In a happy throng With flowers and fans So merry, so gay, Trooped noisily over it Every day. "NEW ZEALAND ROSE." Karori.
"TIPPETTY TOES." (Copied.) Bells of laughter, Ring 'around her. Brightly as she goes. Dancing, glancing. Like a sunbeam, Little Tippetty Toes. Pinker far Than any rosebuds, Bloom her lovely lips. Whiter is no sheaf Of snowdrops Than her fingertips, niad ns brightly As a flower, In youth's shining dress. She lights every road And by-way With her loveliness. Lightly, lightly. . Always dancing. Lovely Tippetty Toes; Ringing little bells Of laughter Brightly as she goes. —Froro "BUNCH o' VIOLETS." City. "TWO BEARS." (Original.) Jamie and Kokie Were two little bears Who didn't like apples. But loved juicy pears. They dwelt nt a Douse In Parkvale Road, And next door to them Lived a touchy old toad. Close by was a pond ■Ml slimy and green Where toad Jamie and Kokio Often were seen.
