WELLINGTON HARMONIC SOCIETY

Another' attractive , and well-varied programme has been arranged for the final subscription concert of the Wellington Harmonic Society for the curw rent Season to be given in the Concert' Chamber of the Town Hall on Tuesday evening next. Under the conductorship - of Mr. H. Temple White the choir ha* been practising assiduously -for some considerable time, and can be relied upon to more than maintain the higl»standard of work for which it has become noted. Included on the pr<* gramme are \ three negro spirituals-— "Talk About a Child" (Dawson), "D». Battle ob Jericho" (RobertonX, -and "Steal Away" (Burleigh)—a fantasia on the opera "Faust" (Gounod, arr. 'Challinor), Dudley Buck's "Hymn to Music," "Tell Me, O Love" (Parry), "The Lee Shore" (Coleridge-Taylor), Percy Granger's "Australian Upcountry Song," and, for female voices, "The Two Clocks" (Rogers). Always on the look-out for fresh talent the society has been fortunate in securing as assisting instrumentalists the Misses Blamires, who have recently returned to Wellington after intensive study abroad. Miss Vivienne Blamires, A.8.C.M., L.R.A.M., solb violinist, will play "Hejre Kati" (Hubay); Mis* Betty Blamires, •. Mus.B., A.R.C.M., solo pianist, will contribute "Prelude" (Debussy); and both will be associated in the First Movement of the "Grieg Sonata in C Minor." Mrs. Wilfred Andrews (contralto) 4vill be the assisting vocalist,* and her*programme numbers will be "Love Eternal" (Brahms), <To the Forest" (Tchaikowsky), and • "Praise Ye the Lord" (Granville Bari^ tock). The box plan opens at Begg's tomorrow.
