REFUGEES' PLIGHT

NEED FOR ESCORTS

(Received October* 27, 3 p.m.) LONDON, October 26.

The Prague correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" says it is suggested that 50 members of the British Legion would be very useful in clearing up the terrible plight of refugees. It is essential that refugees across Germany en route to. other countries should be accompanied and there is also urgent need of people to scour the three kilometre no man's land in between the Czech and the German troops and to assist destitute Jews who are afraid to go either way. Five hundred visas have been issued to emigres and 50,000 are seeking asylum, including 15,000 Jews. Sir Robert Macleay has arrived in Prague to act as chairman of the Lord Mayor's refugee committee.
