OPPOSITION LEADER'S
COMMENT
(Received October 27, 12.30 p.m.^
CANBERRA,
This Day.
The Leader of the Federal Opposition, Mr. J. Curtin (Labour) said: "I am sure that the warm-hearted, people of Australia will give a cordial welcome to his Royal Highnes*s and the Duchess of Kent. I hope their tenure of office will be happy and successful."
In Melbourne Lord Gowrie, Govern-or-General, said that the King had paid a great compliment to the people of Australia. He felt that the Duke of Kent's appointment would be received with tremendous joy and satisfaction throughout Australia. It was a practical demonstration of his Majesty's interest in the people.
