Mr. H. G. Wells has accepted an invitation to attend the jubilee meeting of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science at Canberra in January. His private secretary states that Mr. Wells will not visit New Zealand.

Mr. L. H. James, Government Analyst, Dunedin, attached to the New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Kesearch, expects to spend in the Mother Country two months of the six months' leave of absence which he has been granted. He will be studying the latest developments in analytical and general chemical practice, with special reference to certain problems which particularly interest the New Zealand Government. His travel round includes the United States and Canada. .

"It is announced that Wing-Com-mander J. L. Findlay, M.C., R.N.Z.AJ5 1., attached to the R.A.F., has been appointed to command No. 48 (General Heconnaissance) Squadron, Eastchurch, Sheerness. This unit is one of the seven squadrons of twin-engined Avro Anson aircraft formed under the expansion scheme for reconnaissance work around the coast.
