DELAYED BY RAIN
LINERS FROM SYDNEY
SYDNEY, October 26,
Passengers by the Awatea tonight for Wellington include the newlyappointed Vice-Consul for the Netherlands, Mr. M. F. Vigeveno, and his wife, also Mr. D. Hope-Johnston, who was born in the first house erected in Hobson Street, Wellington, and who was closely identified with the 150 th anniversary celebrations at Sydney. He intends to interest himself in the New Zealand celebrations. Sydney's champion pacer, Lawn Derby, is also aboard the Awatea. Much rain has fallen in Sydney since Monday, hampering the loading of vessels in port. New Zealand ships affected by this were, the Awatea, which will leave five hours late tonight, and the Aorangi, whose sailing tomorrow has been postponed from 4 p.m. to midnight, and the freighter Kaimiro, which is unable, to sail until tomorrow, a day and a half behind schedule. The rain, which is continuing, has proved most beneficial throughout New South Wales, and a most successful cropping and pastoral season is assured.
