ARTISTIC MAKE-UP
AVOIDING OBVIOUS MISTAKES
Many people will be interested to hear of the visit of Madame Stella Rubinstein to New Zealand. There are some who will remember the visit of her sister, Madame Helena Rubinstein, which took place a good many years ago, and resulted in her excellent facial preparations having a great vogue. The Rubinsteins give excellent advice other than connected with "preparations." They say "walk, stretch, exercise, keep the skin scrupulously .clean, and when you come to Madame Rubinstein's age (which is much more than anyone could possibly imagine by looking at her), you will be able, with the help of proper complexion aids to keep the beauty of youth successfully and happily."
Madame Rubinstein started business in Melbourne about 40 years ago. It began simply through her having brought out from France a cream compounded by a doctor friend, which she ,used most successfully, and finally was induced'to place it on the market. From that began a great business which has branches in many cities of the world. The Rubinsteins employ thousands of workers, and therefore are benefactors iri more ways than one.
;'■ The fact that they urge artistic makeup as against simply dabbing on colour or powder, is one of the ways in which they are of undoubted advantage to a world which is largely "made-up," and in many instances so very badly that it is a travesty on what should really be a beauty-aid. ,
Madame Rubinstein is a tremendously busy woman. She supervises several homes, a literary husband who cares very little about the business of beauty, two big sons, and batches of operators whom she always trains personally. She studies all kinds of. skins, dark and light, and spends a good deal of time "on the air" in flights to and from visiting various business centres. It will interest. many people to meet Madame Rubinstein, and hear something of the real, art of make-up and learn to correct some of the obvious faults which are very perceptible in this country. "Study your type" is good advice. When people know how to develop it to the best advantage they will have done a great deal .to increase the good appearance which is not only pleasant to themselves but to other people.
