ACCIDENT IN STEAMER

DUNEDIN, October 26.

After a retirement of 35 minutes, a jury returned a verdict for the plaintiff in a case in which James Peter Bruce proceeded against the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Ltd., in the Supreme Court, for damages arising out of an accident in the steamer Canopus at Port Chalmers in January.;

The claim was for £1531, and the jury awarded the plaintiff £600 general damages and £31 15a special damages. Mr. Justice Kennedy was on the bench. His Honour gave judgment for the plaintiff for a total of £631 15s, with costs.
