Everyone who appreciates knowledge and ability, and courage and tenacity in expounding views based on practical experience and study, would regret to, hear of the death, in July last, oi Friedrich Becker, at Blankanese, Germanyv . ..■ '••■, ■•••-.. '"'.'■■■■; For the past 30 years Herr Becker had been recognised as one of the world's outstanding authorities on bloodstock breeding and thoroughbred lines. He possessed an encyclopaedic knowledge of thoroughbred .families, and was a forthright^and often vitriolic controversialist. Sometimes his writing was marred by prejudices against certain British blood lines, but there was never a doubt about his knowledge—a knowledge gained the school of practical experience. He was a great admirer of the Musket line, and had a high oninion of Australian bloodstock. Whether . one ; agreed with him or not he was always both interesting and entertaining, and ' he marshalled his arguments with trenchant effect. , v ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS.
