ALUMINIUM ENTERPRISE
Electrolytic Zinc is interested in a company to produce and manufacture aluminium in Australia. The companies participating in the project are British Aluminium Co., Ltd., 33 1-3 per cent.; Aluminium, Ltd., of Canada, 33 1-3 per cent.; Electrolytic Zinc Co. of Australasia, Ltd., 20 per cent.; Metal Manufactures, Ltd., 13 1-3 per cent. The first step in connection with the new industry will be the establishment of a rolling mill and extrusion plant to deal with aluminium and its strong alloys. This will probably be erected on a site adjacent to the works of Austral Bronze Company Proprietary, Ltd., at Alexandria, New South Wales. At a later date, when consumption warrants it, reduction works for the production of ingot aluminium will be erected either in New South Wales or Tasmania, at a location where low-cost power is available. Until the reduction works are established the aluminium required for the fabrication works will be supplied by Electrolytic Zinc's overseas partners in the business.
Cable advices from Singapore have been received in Wellington this week reporting advances of about 10 per cent, in prices for the various packs of pineapples. Prices of nutmegs and mace are advised as a little easier on the week. Tapioca and sago show no material change in the market and arc quoted at very low rates.
