HARRY SWIFT OR HARRY HAWK?
Since the generic names of Jack Tar and Tommy Atkins are at least obsolescent, it was . courageous of the 8.8.C. to invent one for the Royal Air Force, says the "Daily Telegraph and Morning Post." In the 8.8.C.'s recorded programmes of a recruit's life in the R.A.F. he is given the name of Harry Swift. This appellation met with a good deal of preliminary criticism. It was pointed out that "Harry Hawk" would convey a not less vivid idea of air masteryIt also suggested an offensive spirit lacking in the swift. The 8.8.C. has kept to its original name. It matters little anyhow, for one cannot see "Harry Swift" becoming an eponymous hero.
