NEW DOCKLAND HOSPITAL
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 22
The new buildings of the hospital in the dockland which were opened by Queen Mary are regarded in medical circles as embodying the last word in modern technique for the treatment of fractures and the rehabilitation of patients suffering from fractures.
Prevention or mitigation of shock is the first consideration. Ambulances back into a heated bay, immediately off which is a "shock room" kept at a high temperature and with the most modern equipment for the treatment of shock, such as apparatus for radiant heat baths and saline and blood transfusions.
The new fracture theatre has a specially filled bakelite operating table, which, with.auxiliary "apparatus in an adjoining room, permits X-ray photographs to be taken in the course of an operation and exhibited through an illuminated panel in the wall within 85 seconds.
An important part of the rehabilitation centre is a gymnasium provided out of a gift of £10,000 by Lord Nuffleld. Contributions to the funds of the hospital have also been made by the Shipping Federation and the Seamen's Union.
Among patients at present in the hospital whom Queen Mary saw in the wards are sailors of many nationalities.
