SPYING IN U.S.A.
RUMRICH'S EVIDENCE
TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE
NEW YORK, October 22,
Gunther Rumrich, the deserter from the United States army who was indicted in the recent spy round-up and later turned State's evidence, testified today that he enrolled as a spy for 290 dollars to trap Nazi master minds and turn them over to the American Government.
He declared that he was grateful to the United States army which took him from the streets when he was starving. He insisted that he took up espionage solely to gather evidence to win his reinstatement in the American forces and wipe out the stain odesertion from his name.
"I thought I would kill two birds with one stone and trip the Nazis and get money from them," he said. Rumrich added that the documents he delivered were of little value.
