CHRISTMAS MAILS

DATES FOR POSTING

The Post Office is providing an earlyreminder of "last opportunities" for the transmission to "the United Kingdom and many other countries of Christmas mails. Information is available in every post office regarding the most suitable times for posting letters, packets, and parcels in time to reach destinations all over the world before Christmas. The best English dispatch recommended for packets, newspapers, and parcels, which go by surface routed is by the mail closing at Auckland on November 4 by the steamer Mataroa, scheduled to reach London on December 7. There are later < dispatches, but as the steamers are not primarily mail carriers their arrival dates may be too close to December 25 to ensure delivery by the appropriate time. The "last date" for letters to England is of course much later, owing to the operation of the Empire air-mail service with its i£d postage. It is possible, by this means, to- reach London on December 15 by posting in time for inclusion in the mail closing at Auckland on November 30, or by utilising the mail which leaves Wellington on December 6 and is due in London on December 19. November 29 is the final opportunity for Christmas correspondence to the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the West Indies, this mail (with its minimum postage rate of 2Jd for letters) being due in Vancouver on December. 18. •
