V.M.C.A COMPETITIONS
The V.M.C.A. gymnastic competitions were held at the Wellington V.M.C.A. this afternoon. The competitions were organised by the V.M.C.A. Physical Directors' Association. Five teams, from Hamilton, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Wellington, and Nelson, are entered. The competition director is Mr. G. Harkness. At a meeting of the board of doctors of the Wellington V.M.C.A. this week, reports were received on the various phases of the association s programme. Most of the regular features of the winter season had been brought to a successful conclusion, and arrangements'were 'being finalised -for summer activities. . This included _an enlargement of :the scope of the swimming and life-saving club, which proposed to secure Thorndon Baths for a weekly club night. Four separate holiday tours for adults are planned for the Christmas holiday period. One party will encircle the North Island, another group will visit Milford Track, and two parties will make the round trip of the South" Island. . In addition to boys' cricket, two senior Y.M.CA. teams will take the field and in combination with the Y.W.C.A., a tennis club will be formed. A large enrolment is expected for the boys' summer camp at ptaki, which will be- under the direction of Mr. G. F. Briggs. The camp this year will feature an up-to-date sound-film projector at its evening programmes. Mr. J. L. Hay, 0.8. E., of Christchurch, formerly general secretary at Wellington,'will speak at the association's annual meeting on November 7. On this occasion also a welcome will be extended to the president, Mr. R. H. Nimmo, upon his return from abroad.
