Auckland. — Although occasional showers were experienced, wickets were in fairly good order for the opening of the cricket season. PonsonbyBalmoral, 451 for six wickets (Cleave 112 not out, Cleal 154, Johnson 103 not out) met Middlemore. North Shore 171 (Archer 65) met V.M.C.A., 152. for seven wickets (Scott 40 not out, Simpson six for 55). Eden 227 (Mills 95) met University. Grafton 211 (Byerley 83, Clark four for 52, Vivian three for 66) met Parnell. 51 for one wicket (W. M. Wallace 33 not out).

Christchurch.—After being interrupted for an hour by rain in the middle of the afternoon, the first day's play in the. second round of the Canterbury Cricket Association's competition was abandoned for the day at about 5 p.m. St. Albans, 173-for four (Crawford 81, McCann 30) met Old Boys. Lancaster Park 146 for four (Bellamy 73, Stout 32) met West Christchurch. Sydenham. 139 for three (Oliver 55 not out, Butterfield 35 not out) met Old Collegians. East Christchurch, 196 for eight (James 55, Mullan 37. Davis 32) met Riccarton.
