INITIATIVE REWARDED
It was with some diffidence five years ago that the stewards of the Wellington Racing Club decided to establish a three-year-old classic event. But every contest that has been staged to date for the Trentham Stakes has shown how much such a race was needed, particularly as a Derby prelude, and there now seems nothing more certain than that the Trentham Stakes has come to remain. The six winners to date have been Southdown, Synagogue, Heritage, Galho, Royal Chief, and Defaulter, a notable sextet of class three-year-olds.

In the two previous races she had had she was running on third in the Wanganui Debutant Stakes and was a good fifth m the WeUesley Stakes last Thursday. Algerian, the half-brother by Beau Pere to Lowenberg, ran his best race yet for third. He came home well klong the rail and half-way, down the straight was even threatening Daniel Defoe The best of the others was Beau Livre's stablemate Globe. Trotter, a son of Safari and having his first race. Globe Trotter was with the leading group all the way, a promising, showing Winning Rival was finishing on and so was Prudent Prince, who was last away. Baran and Areas also went fair races.
